Themes

This conference focuses on invasive species in relation to aquatic ecosystem health and management. We welcome participants who wish to give presentations which fall under one or more of the following specific themes for this conference:

1. Vectors and Pathways

  • Global economy and new routes of species exchange
  • Natural and anthropogenic mechanisms (shipping ballast, organisms in trade, biofouling, watershed diversions)

 2. Ecology and Biology of Invasive Species

  • Invasive species adaptability (human drivers, environmental change, climate change)
  • Models of species invasion
  • Population biology, macro-ecology, genetics

 3. Impacts of invasive species

  • Current understanding and knowledge gaps of the impacts on freshwater, marine and estuarine ecosystems
  • Exploring the effects of invasive species on native species: habitat, competition and recovery
  • Assessing the impacts on economic and human health components

 4. Management Strategies

  • Proactive risk assessment as a management tool
  • Evaluation of tools and techniques for management of invasions
  • Application of Rapid response controls, early detection, vector management strategies
  • Facilitating and developing legal and policy approaches for implementation nationally and globally

 5. State of Aquatic Invasion ecology:  Argentina and South America

  • Special session focusing on aquatic invasive species in Argentina and other South American countries
